以前上映会 をして下さった岩手県山田町の龍昌寺に、テイラー監督が物資を届けに行きました。
以下、監督からのレポートです。 （2009年12月上映会の様子）
The details of my mission to Yamada to take supplies to Shimizu
jushoku are very intense.. I will write about it in more detail later.
（岩手県山田町の清水住職に物資を届けるという今回のミッションは非常に強烈なものでした。
後日改めて、詳しく報告します。）
It took me 8 hours to travel 160km along the coast route 45 and many detours including mountain roads no more than 180cm wide in a truck full of supplies... We couldn't establish contact before leaving so had no idea what the situation is there.
As I traveled up the coast..every 5~10 miles is another city completely wiped out from the
Tsunami.. the devastation was unimaginable and never ending. When I finally arrived in Yamada, this city too was in complete ruins..
no way to identify streets or recognize landmarks. When I finally found the main gate of Ryushoji Temple I could see that the Tsunami had come right to the third step.
Everything was black.. no sound, no light, just the mountains of rubble and razor sharp debris verywhere. Rico and I got out of the truck and walked up to the temple with my flash light looking for any sign of life. I thought that everyone must be gone.
180cm幅もないような山道やたくさんの迂回路がとても多く、私たちは８時間をかけて国道45号沿いを北上しました。
出発前に現地とコンタクトがとれず、状況が把握できないまま出発をしました。
北上、約10～15kmごとに目にする現実は、津波の壊滅的な被害を受けた町々です。
その凄まじさは想像を絶するものであり、永遠と続いてるかのようでした。
岩手県山田町もまたその壊滅的な被害をうけた町で、かつては道であったであろう道は、もはや道ではなく、目印になるようなものは完全に姿を消していました。
どうにか龍昌寺の正門をみつけましたが、津波がお寺を襲っていた事は一目でわかりました。
あたり一面は真っ黒でした。まったく光がなく音もなく、暗闇の中目に見えたのはどこまでも続くがれきの山でした。
これ以上進めないトラックを留め、リコと私は懐中電灯を持ってトラックをおりました。
ライトで足下を照らしながら本堂に向かう途中、注意深く捜索しながら足を進めました。状況からして、ここにいた全ての方がどこかへいってしまったように思えました。
Then a flashlight from a window shined and people started to come out from the temple.
I was so relieved to find them. Shimizu-Jushoku's wife had a broken arm, and Shimizu-jushoku had injured his back.
There were children their how had lost everything.. family, even their pet dog.
they were happy to see Rico, and Rico brought them smiles and love.
すると窓の中から懐中電灯の光が見え、中から人がでてきたのです。
龍昌寺のみなさんと会えたときは本当に心からうれしく思い安心しました。
清水住職は腰に、奥様は腕に怪我をしていました。
またお寺には、家や家族を失った子供たち、また飼っていた犬を失った子供たちがいましたが、みなリコをみて、また笑顔を取り戻していました。
I was able to deliver medicine, food, and drinks for everyone there. I was most happy to see Shimizu-Jushoku and his wife had survived this incredible disaster.
Shimizu-Jushoku cried as he thanks me (all of us who helped make this happen).
I cried too.,. Its only the second time in my life that I have seen tears from a monk.
皆さんからの協力のおかげで、私は医薬品、食料、飲み物を届ける事ができました。
連絡がとれず心配しながら出発しましたが、こんな恐ろしい災害の中、清水住職、そして住職の奥様が無事で生き抜いておられたことを心からうれしく思い感無量でした。
清水住職は、涙を流して感謝しておられました。（すべての人の協力があって初めて今回の事が可能になったのです）私も感極まり涙を流しました。私の人生のなかで僧侶が涙を流すのをみたのはこれが２回目でした。
Early the next morning I departed... leaving flashlights for two kids who were still so frighten from the pitch dark and silence that comes with each night.
震災後、真っ暗闇や静けさにいまだ恐怖を感じるこどもが二人。
この子たちに懐中電灯を残し、翌朝早朝に私は現地を出発しました。
