「GATE」の製作には約3年間の月日を費やしました。それは私にとってGND Fundの核兵器の解体に関する議定書調印のためにアメリカとロシアを行き来する日々でもありました。その間、実に多くの方が国境を越え、この映画の制作に参加して下さっています。時間や能力の貢献であり、資金面での協力であり、その形態は様々です。映画に関わる親切な行いは、今日にいたっています。そして、世界中の人々がこの実話である旅のストーリーから、様々なインスピレーションを受け取っています。

僧侶たちの旅は、純粋に平和を願ったものです。政治的なものでもなく、宗教的、反戦、反政府を掲げることが目的ではありません。彼らの使命もまた、原子爆弾の使用を議論するものでも、原爆の惨状を示すことでもないのです。なぜなら、彼らの使命は純真に、60年前に開いてしまった破滅の恐怖という輪を閉じることで、終止符を打ち、私たち自身が迎える未来に向け、新たな輪を開こうと行動したものなのです。核兵器と共に過ごす未来を望むのか、核兵器のない未来を望むのかは、私たち自身の意思と行いによって決断できるのです。僧侶たちの行動は非常に謙虚で静かな行動は、人々により一層の強烈なメッセージを与え、いまや大きなムーブメントへとつながろうとしています。

この映画をみた人々が、さらに周りの人と共有していくことで、今の世代、今後の世代、またその未来の世代へと、平和の輪が永遠に広がる事を願っています。

The random acts of kindness by Americans who had met the monks along the way, has continued to this day. Countless people around the world have been, and continue to be inspired by their story.

For three years I had worked on the film as I traveled between the U.S. and Russia negotiating the GNDF treaty protocol agreement. Many people from all over the world had also volunteered their time, talent, and money to help me bring the film to a point where I could start showing it to people. The monks journey was not a protest of any kind... it wasn't political, religious, anti-war, or anti government. Their mission was not even to argue about the use of the atomic bomb, or even to help people understand the devastation it caused. Their mission was simple; it was to close a 60 year long circle of fear and destruction, and to open a new circle that would give people a choice to determine their own future... a future with, or without nuclear weapons. Their mission was for all humanity, for all life on the planet... and although their actions may have been silent and humble, these actions have inspired more people then perhaps any other event in recent memory. And with the help of people who watch this film, and help share it with others, will continue to inspire future generations to come.
